At Smith Teamaker, one of our company goals is to give back in a meaningful way to the people harvesting our carefully selected teas. Since 2012 we have partnered with Mercy Corps to provide free academic coaching via community-sourced teachers to disadvantaged secondary school students through the School Education Retention Program (SERP). This additional attention provides the students with the tools they need to pass exams and continue to college, for which scholarships are available.
Our partnership was sparked by Steven Smith's dedication to positively impacting the lives of people in the tea community where he sources his tea. Together, Mercy Corps and Smith Teamaker have improved the lives of more than 1,200 deserving students by increasing school performance and opening pathways to continue higher education and access greater opportunities. Today, the children in the traditionally disadvantaged tea estates have graduation rates nearly on par with the rest of India. We invite you to be a part of this legacy and provide opportunities for children and families around the world.
Join Smith Teamaker by making a gift that supports Mercy Corps' coaching centers in India and other humanitarian work around the world.
Here are some examples of how every dollar we contribute helps students on the tea estates attend school. Many students are unable to go on to higher education without funds to cover these costs:
$16 covers the cost of books for one student at secondary school on the Assam tea estates
$20 buys one student a uniform to be able to attend school
$30 covers tuition fees for school enrollment
$60 covers all admission fees for secondary school
$80 buys a student a bicycle to help them get from home to the coaching centers and classes
$200 provides a scholarship for one student, including all fees and costs outlined above
Together with Mercy Corps, we can help people grow more food, access education, earn a better living, and ultimately, transform their lives. Now, and for the future.
On behalf of the men, women and children who are counting on our support - thank you.
